On this block I have fiddled with two methods of applique. First was needleturn. Second was freezer paper applique using the glue baste method. As these pieces are rather large, it was easier to do needleturn. To place the pieces on the background I experimented with applique pins and basting. Old-fashion basting was easier to handle.
The block requires several one-inch circles. I am going to try the method that I saw Sarah Fielke demo on youtube. Instead of drawing out the one-inch circles, I’m going to buy a one-inch punch used for scrapbooking. Stay tuned on how well that works.
This post is motivated by Kathy’s weekly Slow Sunday Stitching party and the kindred stitchers who join her.

I love your beautiful colors in this block.
I recently finished an applique project using those bright fabrics. I have some of the fabric used in the lower right scalloped curve. It was fun to figure out a creative way to use all those fabrics. Nice job!
Oh, how beautiful this block is. I love all those pretty fabrics. I too am appliqueing a quilt at the moment and am still deciding which method of applique I prefer. I can just see in my mind's eye beautiful pots of flowers in your quilt. Your quilt is going to be singing in happy colour and pattern. I look forward to seeing more of your lovely stitching as you progress.
Thank you. I am enjoying sewing with the fabrics.
The fabric you mentioned may be a retired pattern. I like the colors and how Kaffe put them together. I am playing around with the fabric to decided what to use where.
Coincidentally, I am considering another appliqué method ~ back basting appliqué. I think I'll watch a couple more youtube videos. I have had the Flower Pots pattern for a couple of years. Time to work on it.
The evenings are getting shorter for slow stitching but I agree that we need to take full advantage of this beautiful weather. Bright and happy appliqué!
I had not heard of back basting applique so I watched a youtube video. Such an interesting technique. I would imagine this would be a good way to applique if you had a a pattern such as your flower pots.
I looking forward to see your review of the punch for the circles. The applique is beautiful! Enjoy these lovely sunny days we're having now. Rain is supposed to return to northern Indiana the end of the week.
Yes. Our natural lighting in the evening is getting shorter. Sometimes my supper dishes wait. ;-)
I love your work! This will be stunning. Thanks for sharing your observations on various methods.
I love seeing sewing projects for inspiration, Jill. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work in progress.
