Slow Sunday Snowman

Hope this post comes through as I am encouraging myself to learn the new, updated and improved (so they say) Blogger platform. This week I have a good start on my next hand stitching project: a cute snowman stitched on blue and white gingham 28 count linen.

A couple of weeks ago when I originally posted this project, I discovered I had the wrong gingham linen, therefore, there was a delay in starting the snowman until the correct fabric arrived. It was worth the wait!

There is an oriole feeder in our backyard which can be viewed from the kitchen.  A storm came through and the little orange feeding (jelly) dish was blown away.  What to do? What else could be used?

Fortunately, I had some garage-sale find dessert dishes made of vintage pressed glass. One fit perfectly and now the birds have the fanciest feeding dish in the neighborhood!

The three lavender plants in my garden are in full bloom and smell heavenly! A local farmer told me the Munstead variety has the best Michigan winter survival rate.

In person church services with social distancing procedures resume this week. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend due to recovering from an allergic reaction to an insect bite obtained sitting on the patio while hand sewing. Ugh. I must have been concentrating too hard on the stitches. No worries as the antibiotics are working well!

To my Canadian readers and friends, have a Happy Canada Day on Wednesday!

Take care,
Jill

Now that is a fancy bird feeder. Such a brilliant idea to replace the 'fly away' dish with the vintage pressed glass. Love the blue and white gingham linen your sweet little snowman is on. Isn't he an adorable fellow. That lavender must smell divine. Hope your insect bite heals quickly, Jill.

your bird feeder is lovely - I would stay away from the church services still - in Arkansas there have been several outbreaks of the virus that lead back to the churches - some aren't being careful

Lovely snowman cross stitch, and great bird feeder. My lavender is looking a little worse for the 100-104 degree weather the past two weeks! Yours is gorgeous!

The snowman is going to be darling on the gingham. Too funny and ingenious using the glass dessert dish for the birdfeeder.

Love that fabric! Your snowman is going to look very fine on it! Your improvised bird feeder is genius and looks great hanging outside your window. I'm not sure our churches are open for services yet. Hope you feel better soon. Take care.

Your gingham linen is so fun! Looks like it will be enjoyable to sew a snowman on. I like your way of fixing the oriole feeder, too - very creative thinking!

Love your sweet snowman on that pretty gingham, Jill! I'm so sorry to hear about your bug bite while stitching outside and the inflammation that it caused. Hope the antibiotics take care of it quickly.

Oh, your Baltimore Oriole is gorgeous and the feeder itself is genius--what a great idea. I've never tried attracting Orioles to our yard, but hope to give it a try one of these years. Our problem is that the raccoons, deer, etc. would probably make quick work of the grape jelly. Last night an entire cake of suet was eaten by one of the wildlife creatures. Sigh...

Enjoy these last few days of June--can hardly believe the year is half over :)

Love that fancy bird feeder. Your lavender plant is gorgeous! My daughter has been visiting and is already dealing with bug bites from enjoying our yard. She immediately breaks out with large bites each and every time. I hope your reaction clears up soon. I love your cute snowman.
