This past week was a busy one so Santa moved slowly through the home stretch. A visit was needed at the local needlepoint shop for advice on stitching his beard. These are long french knots made with angora fiber. Half-way finished!
Saturday, I took a long drive (175 miles) to view the Grand Rapids AQS Quilt Show. I enjoy their shows, however, there seemed to be less quilts entered and on display than previous years which was
Summer beach house with clever accessories.
A shame this quilt did not receive a ribbon nor honorable mention.

Wall hanging
I'd love to have this wall hanging in my sewing room.
Well-deserved ribbon.
Hand Stippling ~ exquisite!

Thank you so much for the quilt pictures. I love the applique one with the hanging quilts and that circular one with the hand-stitched stippling is exquisite. Santa's beard is looking great by the way.
I wish I had more time at the show for more picture taking, etc. I also loved the wall hanging of quilts on a clothesline. So well done and clever. Thanks for viewing the quilt photos!
WOW! Santa's beard is quite impressive. I'd have no idea how to do that. You are doing a beautiful job!
I could not have done his beard without help. I'm using thumb muscles to pull the yarn through the canvas. Lol! Thanks for commenting.
Santa is adorable! Are you following a pattern or are you doing your own thing? Makes me want to embroider again.
Back in the age before time began, I used to stitch. The eyes don't do it any more, although I think I can still do 18 count. Back then I worked on 22 count and 32 count linen. Do that now? Hah!
Love Santa! Thanks for the quilt show. I have the fabric for some of those tiny quilts.
That beard is a really cool 3D effect!
Oh how I wish I could do my own thing. ;-) Santa is a hand-painted needlepoint canvas which was designed by Strictly Christmas. There is a whole line of what are called squatty Santas. I purchased this one through my local needlepoint shop.
I'm stitching on 18-point canvas which is becoming a strain. A desktop magnifying light is getting me to the finish and is saving unnecessary eye strain and making needlework enjoyable once again.
Coincidence that you mention that you have some tiny quilt fabrics as I was wondering about them while viewing the wall hanging. Perhaps how the maker used them will inspire.
Thanks Kathy!
Santas beard is looking amazing! Thanks for showing us some of the quilts from the show. There are some talented people out there!
The beard is beautifully embroidered. It's a perfect Santa's beard.
Thank you for taking us to the exhibition by showing these great photos. :-)
Santa's beard is so fun - looks challenging, though! I enjoyed the photos of the quilts from the show, too. The one with the little quilts hanging on the line is just amazing!
Yes, there are talented people that are clever and patient in their sewing. It's difficult to appreciate all the details of each and every quilt on display.
Wish I could take credit for the style of his beard, however, that belongs to the needlepoint store's embellisher. Another wish, is that I could have taken more quilt photos while spending a few more hours at the exhibit.
Your opinion on Santa's beard is spot on. Fun looking, yet a challenge to stitch. Stitching slowly on Slow Sunday Stitching has been helpful on making progress.
